  • Much better than the old Grand Ams - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

I bought this vehicle in mid 98 right after it was introduced. I dont usually do that, since I like to give the manf. time to work the bugs out. I really like the way the car handles and the V6 has good power for a non- sports car. The only problem I have had is I had to replace the water pump at about 55,000 miles. The mechanic blamed it on the new Dexcool antifreeze.

The Grand Am SE is a beautiful car and it handles great on dry roads. It doesnt perform the greatest when the roads, or especially RR tracks, are wet. Ive had a lot of little things wrong that have cost about $400 to fix with 30,000 miles on it, which I think is too much.

I bought my 1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE 4 door in July of 2001. It was great until New Years Eve 2001. The next time we stopped, thank God it was in a parking lot, the car stalled and would not start anymore. We had to replace the alternator. Since then we have had to replace it two more times. I am afraid we will probably have to replace it again. With this car you never know. Also we have a leak somewhere in the radiator. The antifreeze keeps leaking out within 10 hours of filling it. Living in Michigan in the middle of winter with no heat is not a good thing. I always dreamed of owning this car. I never thought it would be a nightmare.

  • An average car... - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

I bought mine used in 2000 with around 30,000 miles on it. Until about 2 years ago it was a solid car. Then the first rear window motor broke, followed shortly by the other back window. Ive replaced the brakes twice in 5 years and the rotors only once. The alternator I had to change in 2004. The only REAL complaint I have with it would be the dashboard trim where it meets the windshield...its started peeling up. Oh, and its been said before, but the cup holders in the front? Yeah, right...unless you have a CAN of pop, youre gonna have to shift into Reverse or Neutral to remove them when getting out. Good car, but too many issues to recommend it to others.

Had this car since 1999. Original owner. Replaced alternator once, brakes twice and had some work done on catalytic converter. Also passenger side mirror fell off pretty easily. Enough bad though. I love this car. Im very hard on vehicles and this one has held up really well. 120,000 miles, most are in town. Pretty good gas mileage, about 33 mpg. Handles great in snow and ice. Very comfortable on long trips. Heating and cooling system is wonderful. Lots of storage. Drives really well on back/country/mountainous roads, including dirt, gravel, and mud.

  • A Disapointment ... - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

Bought with just under 90,000 miles on it. My Grand Am is no doubt a very sharp looking car and the performance is great. But before you purchase this car DO YOUR RESEARCH! I have owned this car for almost 2 years and it has been nothing of a problem. I have had to replace the AC unit and on my last road-trip I had the wonderful experience of a blown head-gasket. After fixing that for about $2,000 it turns out the bearings in my engine have been warped or contaminated by the anti-freeze,likely a result of the blown head-gasket so now its going to die. The cars interior is nothing to brag about. This car had a lot of potential but due to poor reliability I will be looking for a new ride.

  • American Performance At Its Best - 1999 Pontiac Grand AM

When I purchased it the car had over 147 thousand miles. The engine ran like new with no prior work. The car always attracted the attention of pedestrians especially with its premium sound system. After a car wash the victory red paint job was a gleaming flame. The car did not require work , just tires from opening up the powerful v-6 high output engine too many times. One day I had got into an accident about 25 miles from home and I smashed the car into a highway divider wrecking the front end. The tire blew out but the car drove as if the wheel was still inflated. I took an exit and installed the donut. Then I drove 27 miles home without one problem. The car is very reliable and safe!
